Varanasi: A two-day international workshop on the theme “Reformulating Pedagogy for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs): Critical, Sustainable, and Human-Centered Teaching-Learning Frameworks” is being organized at the Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Varanasi. The programme commenced with the Manglacharan presented by Dr. Sunil Kumar Tripathi, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral tributes offered to Goddess Saraswati and the statue of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya.
The chief guest of the programme was Prof. Emili Puig i Vallaro, Professor, Department of Pedagogy, University of Girona, Spain. The workshop was presided over by Prof. Prem Narayan Singh, Director, IUCTE, Varanasi. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Ashish Srivastava, Dean (Academic and Research), IUCTE, Varanasi.
In her keynote address, Prof. Emili Puig i Vallaro emphasized that education is not merely about changing methods, but a process of reorganizing knowledge, values, context, and responsibility. She highlighted that the present era is marked by VUCA and BANI conditions, characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity, anxiety, and non-linearity. She stressed that education should not attempt to escape these challenges but must equip learners with the capacity to live and function meaningfully within them. She further underlined the importance of prioritizing human connection and ethical responsibility in higher education institutions. Clarifying the concept of “reformulating,” she noted that it does not simply imply improvement, but rather focusing on what truly matters the most.
Prof. Ashish Srivastava, while presenting the framework of the workshop, highlighted the significance of restructuring pedagogical practices. He stated that in the contemporary context, mere reform or change is insufficient; instead, education must be reorganized in accordance with emerging contexts and responsibilities. He emphasized that reformulating pedagogy is the key to making higher education more humane, holistic, and relevant to the times.
In his presidential address, Prof. Prem Narayan Singh, Director, IUCTE, welcomed all the participants and emphasized the need to integrate the Indian Knowledge System into modern teaching-learning processes. He stated that such an approach would guide education towards becoming more humane and holistic. He further remarked that the greatest need of the present time is to infuse education with sensitivity, inclusiveness, and human values.
The programme was coordinated and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Gyanendra Singh, Assistant Professor, IUCTE. The workshop witnessed the participation of eminent educationists, research scholars, and faculty members of the centre.
