Awareness Programme on World IBD Day Organized at IMS-BHU

Varanasi: An awareness programme was organized on the occasion of World IBD Day by the Department of Gastroenterology at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU), at the Doctor’s Lounge of the hospital premises. More than 300 patients and their family members participated in the event.

The programme was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, as the Chief Guest. Head of the Department, Dr. Devesh Prakash Yadav, informed that cases of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) are continuously increasing, but timely diagnosis and modern treatment can help patients lead a normal life. He further stated that nearly 2,000 patients have been registered so far at the department’s dedicated IBD clinic.

Specialist doctors provided detailed information about the symptoms, diagnosis, and advanced treatment options for IBD, including the Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) technique. Dietician Shivani Tripathi advised patients to follow a balanced and easily digestible diet while avoiding junk food, spicy food, and smoking.

A question-answer and counselling session was also organized during the programme, where experts addressed the queries and concerns of patients and their attendants.
