Free Treatment Campaign Gives New Life to Children Suffering from Clubfoot in Varanasi
Varanasi:
A commendable free treatment campaign is being run in Varanasi for children suffering from clubfoot, a congenital deformity in which a child’s feet are twisted out of shape. The initiative aims to completely cure affected children and enable them to lead a normal and healthy life.
The campaign is being conducted jointly by the National Child Health Programme (RBSK) and Anushka Foundation – Clubfoot Elimination Project. The entire treatment is provided free of cost and continues for nearly five years to ensure complete recovery.

Medical Team
The programme is supported by a dedicated team of experienced doctors, including
Dr. Abhishek Kumar Rai, Dr. Anil Kumar Sinha, Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh,
Dr. Sushil Kumar Agrawal, Dr. Rajesh Pandey,
Associate Doctor Dr. Sanjay Kumar Yadav from the OPD Department of BHU Trauma Centre,
and Assistant Professor Dr. Shubham Shrivastava (Orthopaedic Surgeon).
Three-Stage Treatment Process
Casting (Plaster): The affected foot is gradually corrected by applying plaster casts 5–6 times.
Tenotomy: A minor surgical procedure involving a small incision at the back of the heel to improve flexibility.
Braces: Special shoes are provided, which the child must wear for up to 23 hours a day during the first three months.
Achievements
50 children have been successfully treated in the current session.
So far, a total of 458 children have been cured of clubfoot under this programme.
Sarita Mishra, Coordinator of Anushka Foundation, has appealed to parents to take advantage of this free service. She informed that parents can contact the Orthopaedics Department (Room No. 11) at Mandaliya District Hospital, Kabirchaura, for registration and treatment.
