Vishwanath Anand Crowned ‘Ganga Shri’ at 90th Annual Swimming Competition
Varanasi, June 15: The prize distribution ceremony of the 90th Annual Swimming Competition, organized by the Saraswati Swimming Association at Darbhanga Ghat, was held with great enthusiasm on Sunday. Dr. Meenakshi Katyayan (IPS), Commandant of the 34th Battalion PAC, attended the event as the chief guest and conferred the prestigious ‘Ganga Shri’ title upon Vishwanath Anand.
In the flagship 12-kilometre Ganga Shri Swimming Race, which started from Vishva Sundari Bridge and concluded at Darbhanga Ghat, Vishwanath Anand secured first place, while Satyam Sahni and Lal Chandra Sahni finished second and third respectively.
In the Women’s Open Race, Riya Patel emerged as the winner. Participants from various age categories also showcased remarkable performances, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for swimming among young boys and girls.
The event was conducted by General Secretary Narayan Chatterjee, while the overall organization was led by Association President D.S. Chatterjee. A large number of swimmers, parents, sports enthusiasts, and distinguished guests attended the competition and the prize distribution ceremony.
