AAP Workers Celebrate Court Relief in Excise Case, Raise Questions Over Central Agencies
Varanasi: Workers of the Aam Aadmi Party celebrated near Ambedkar Park in Varanasi after party leaders, including convenor Arvind Kejriwal and senior leader Manish Sisodia, along with 23 others, were reportedly acquitted by the court in connection with the alleged liquor policy case.
Party workers distributed sweets and organized a procession with drums to express their happiness over the court’s decision. The celebration witnessed the participation of several local leaders and supporters.
District President Kailash Patel alleged that the central government had attempted to defame AAP leaders by filing false cases. State spokesperson Mukesh Singh criticized the ruling government, stating that such an incident—where a sitting Chief Minister was accused—was unprecedented in independent India. He claimed that the verdict reflects how political rivalry has impacted democratic institutions.
Party leaders also raised concerns regarding the functioning of central agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging that they were being misused for political purposes. They further accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of weakening democratic values in pursuit of political power.
State Rekha Jaiswal and senior leader Devkant Verma said that the court’s decision had exposed what they described as an attempt to malign the party’s image and destabilize its leadership in Delhi.
Among those present at the event were Abdullah Khan, Ghanshyam Pandey, Archana Srivastava, Sharda Tandon, Akhilesh Pandey, Pramod Srivastava, Priya Patel, Nilesh Singh, Amar Singh Patel, Mohini Mahendru, Gulab Singh Rathore, Saroj Sharma, Arvind Yadav, and Imran Saathi.
