SP Leaders Placed Under House Arrest Ahead of Dalmandi Visit in Varanasi
Varanasi, February 21:
Ahead of the proposed visit to Dalmandi, several leaders of the Samajwadi Party (SP) were allegedly placed under house arrest by the police late at night. The delegation was scheduled to visit Dalmandi under the direction of SP National President Akhilesh Yadav.
The delegation was to be led by Teachers’ MLC Lal Bihari Yadav, with the aim of meeting permanent residents, affected locals, and members of the trader community in Dalmandi to hear their concerns regarding the ongoing issue.
However, before they could proceed, heavy police deployment was made at the residences of several SP leaders. Among those stopped was SP leader and Metropolitan President of the Vishwakarma community, Vishnu Sharma. Late at night, a large police force reportedly reached his residence and stationed personnel outside.
When Vishnu Sharma attempted to leave his Lohatia residence to head toward Dalmandi, police allegedly stopped him from proceeding. Reports suggest that a brief scuffle occurred between SP workers and the police during the confrontation.
Party leaders have accused the state administration of acting in an authoritarian manner by placing members of the delegation under house arrest and preventing them from meeting the public. Despite the restrictions, two SP leaders reportedly managed to reach Dalmandi after evading police monitoring.
