Congress Marks Kanshi Ram’s Birth Anniversary as ‘Parivartan Diwas’; Demand Raised for Bharat Ratna,

Lucknow: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Manyavar Kanshi Ram, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee organized a program titled “Parivartan Diwas” (Day of Change) at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, criticized the central government’s energy policies and emphasized Kanshi Ram’s vision of social equality.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that Narendra Modi had compromised the country’s energy security, stating that the United States is now deciding from where India will import oil. He warned that the situation in the energy sector could worsen in the coming days.
Recalling the ideology of Kanshi Ram, Rahul Gandhi said that Kanshi Ram always spoke about equality in society and ensuring rights for the majority. He remarked that if Jawaharlal Nehru were alive today, Kanshi Ram would have been a Congress Chief Minister. He added that the Constitution reflects the voices of Mahatma Gandhi, B. R. Ambedkar, and Kanshi Ram.
Raising concerns about India’s trade policy, Rahul Gandhi claimed that importing goods worth ₹9 lakh crore from the United States could harm Indian trade and businesses. He urged Congress workers to fight for ideology and said the party needs at least 100 dedicated workers in Uttar Pradesh who are ready to struggle for political change without compromise.
Using the symbolic example of a pen and its cap—often associated with Kanshi Ram’s political messaging—Rahul Gandhi said Kanshi Ram wanted the majority population to receive its rightful share in power. He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has divided society into 15 percent and 85 percent, with the benefits of power largely going to a small section of society.
During the program, party leaders and workers also demanded that Kanshi Ram be honored posthumously with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
Ashok Kumar Vishwakarma, Vice President of the OBC Department of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, said the event highlighted Kanshi Ram’s legacy and his lifelong struggle for social justice and equal rights.
