Rohania Police Crack ₹30 Lakh Jewellery Theft Case, Notorious Accused Arrested

Varanasi, Rohania Police in Varanasi have successfully solved a major theft case involving jewellery worth approximately ₹30 lakh and arrested a notorious identified as Shani Dharikar (22), a resident of Ramdattpur under Lalpur-Pandeypur police station limits.
The arrest was made on April 5 at around 3:20 AM near Chaura Mata Temple in Parmanandpur. Acting on his confession, police recovered 180.460 grams of melted gold, 818 grams of silver bullion, ₹8,500 in cash, an illegal .315 bore firearm, two live cartridges, and a Honda Amaze car used in the crime.
The operation was carried out under the directions of the Police Commissioner, Varanasi, as part of an ongoing campaign against theft, robbery, and burglary. Incident Details:
The theft took place on the night of March 21/22, 2026, in Govindpur village under Rohania police station. The victim’s family had gone to Vindhyachal for leaving their house locked. Upon returning late at night, they found the lock broken and valuables, including gold and silver jewellery and cash, missing. A case was subsequently registered, and investigation began.
Modus Operandi:
During interrogation, the revealed that he, along with two accomplices, targeted locked houses after conducting reconnaissance. On the night of the incident, they initially attempted a break-in at another house but failed, after which they targeted the locked house in Govindpur. The trio broke into the house, forced open almirahs, and stole jewellery and cash.
The stolen jewellery was later sold to a jeweller in Mohania for around ₹17 lakh. Based on CCTV footage and further inquiry, police also recovered the sold items from the jeweller.
Criminal Background:
Shani Dharikar has a long criminal history, with around 20 cases registered against him in various police stations of Varanasi, including theft, burglary, robbery, and violations under the Arms Act.

The successful operation was led by Station House Officer Raju Singh, Sub-Inspector Amir Bahadur Singh, along with the Rohania police team and surveillance unit, whose coordinated efforts led to the breakthrough.
