Gorkha Community Count Shown as Zero in Census Sparks Outrage; Satyendra Bari Orders Immediate Correction

Varanasi: Strong objections have been raised after the Gorkha community was reportedly shown as having zero population in census data. Satyendra Bari, a member of the Uttar Pradesh Backward Class Commission, expressed sharp displeasure over the issue and reprimanded the concerned officials for what he termed a serious lapse.
Bari stated that the Gorkha community has a गौरवशाली (glorious) history and has made significant contributions to the nation and society. Displaying their population as zero, he said, is not only factually incorrect but also an insult to the entire community.
He directed the अधिकारियों (officials) to immediately rectify the error and present accurate data, ensuring that no community faces injustice and that proper representation is maintained.
Following Bari’s strong reaction, members of the Gorkha community have expressed satisfaction and renewed hope for justice. He further emphasized that it is the प्रशासन (administration)’s responsibility to ensure dignity and fair representation for every community.
The meeting was attended by officials and representatives of the Indian Gorkha Federation, Varanasi Division, including Padam Singh Rana (Coordinator, Chandauli District), Gopal Sharma (Advisor and Former President), Chandan Singh Thapa (President), and Pramod Poudyal (Senior Vice President), along with district officials from Varanasi. Satyendra Bari was centrally present in the meeting.
