India-Italy Ties Gain New Momentum, Focus on Strategic Partnership
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have reaffirmed their commitment to taking India-Italy relations to new heights, emphasizing that the partnership has evolved beyond traditional friendship into a strong strategic collaboration based on democratic values, technological innovation, and a shared global vision.
Both leaders highlighted the need to expand cooperation in key sectors including trade, defence, artificial intelligence, energy, space, cyber security, and digital public infrastructure. The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade beyond 20 billion euros by 2029.
The leaders stated that India’s growing digital and industrial capabilities, combined with Italy’s expertise in design, manufacturing, and technology, can create new global opportunities. They also stressed the importance of responsible and human-centric use of artificial intelligence, green hydrogen, renewable energy, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) as major pillars of future cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Meloni further noted that shared values such as India’s philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and Italy’s humanitarian traditions will continue to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.
