Varanasi, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day and the birthday of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a historic and inspiring plantation drive was organized in the Cantonment Area of Varanasi. Renowned senior social worker Sushma Singh joined soldiers and differently-abled persons in planting saplings, conveying a strong message of environmental conservation and social responsibility.
The most remarkable aspect of the event was the participation of brave soldiers, dedicated to safeguarding the nation, alongside differently-abled individuals, who together contributed to the plantation campaign. While the soldiers demonstrated their commitment to protecting nature, the differently-abled participants enthusiastically took part in the drive, showcasing their responsibility towards the environment.
Addressing the gathering, senior social worker Sushma Singh emphasized that environmental protection is not merely a campaign but a collective responsibility towards future generations. She urged citizens to plant more trees and ensure their regular care and maintenance.
On the occasion, residents, members of social organizations, and military personnel collectively pledged to avoid the use of single-use plastic and work towards making the Cantonment Area completely plastic-free. Various shade-giving and medicinal plants were planted during the programme, and participants also resolved to ensure their protection and upkeep to make the area greener and pollution-free.
The event, marked by the active participation of soldiers, differently-abled persons, and social workers, emerged as an inspiring example of social unity, environmental awareness, and community engagement.
