Varanasi Clinches State U-20 Handball Championship Title

Varanasi, June 9: Varanasi emerged as the champion of the State-Level Under-20 Boys’ Handball Championship 2026, organized jointly by the Uttar Pradesh Sports and Education Council and the Uttar Pradesh Handball Association at Varanasi Public School, Kerakatpur.

In the final match played on Tuesday, Varanasi defeated Lucknow by 29-20 to lift the championship trophy. Surya starred for the winning side, scoring a match-high nine goals.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Lucknow edged past Mau 29-28 in a closely contested encounter, while Varanasi secured its place in the final by defeating Ghaziabad 28-25.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Chairman of the host school, Vijay Kumar Jaiswal, who presented trophies, medals, and certificates to the winners and runners-up. Teams from various districts of Uttar Pradesh participated in the tournament, making it a highly competitive event.

The championship concluded on a grand note, celebrating sporting excellence and youth talent in handball across the state.
