Fiber Economy is India’s Next Global Opportunity: Giriraj Singh

Varanasi/New Delhi: Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh has said that the fiber economy is emerging as India’s next major global opportunity. He emphasized that natural fibers such as banana, bamboo, hemp, milkweed, flax, ramie and other sustainable fiber sources can significantly enhance farmers’ incomes while positioning India as a global leader in eco-friendly and sustainable textiles.

The minister informed that the Government of India has made special provisions for New Age Fibers under the Mission for Cotton Productivity for the period 2026–31. In addition, the National Fiber Mission is promoting cultivation, research, infrastructure development and market expansion for natural fibers across the country.

Highlighting the importance of innovation, Singh said that fiber blending and the adoption of modern technologies can help India produce high-quality textiles and strengthen its position in the global textile value chain.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 5F vision—“Farm to Fiber, Fiber to Fabric, Fabric to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign”—the minister said that India’s green fiber revolution is creating new opportunities for farmers, women and rural entrepreneurs.

Expressing confidence in the sector’s future, Singh stated that India is well on its way to becoming a global hub for natural and sustainable fiber-based industries in the coming years.
